About Us
In 2003, a concerned group of parents, committed to the purpose of raising private financial support for Malibu High School, came together to form The Shark Fund: Scott and Patti Schwartz, John and Carolyn Diemer, Wes Walraven, Wendy Cary, Karen Farrer, Russ Haft, Michael Kaiser and Cindy Block. While parent and booster groups from all areas of school life had been raising money to benefit school programs throughout the history of Malibu High, The Shark Fund committed itself to be the chief fundraising arm of the school and to raise as much money as possible to make Malibu High School the best high school in the nation. Today, The Shark Fund is a non-profit 501(c)(3) umbrella fund raising organization, providing financial support directly to Malibu High School, the MHS PTSA, the Athletic Booster Club, The Arts Angels, and The Gardening Angels.
Since 2003, The Shark Fund has raised over $3,000,000. Every fall, The Shark Fund launches a direct donation campaign that encourages each family to donate money in support of our children’s education. Other fundraising efforts include phone campaigning, parent events, and targeted capital campaigns that focus money to a particular school need such as the major technology purchases that have equipped a state of the art MAC lab, a PC lab and have outfitted the Journalism Department with new computers as well. Other recent capital projects include the purchasing and refurbishing of enough lockers so that every student at MHS might have a locker to use; as well as the extensive Landscaping Projects that have transformed MHS into one of the jewels of our school system. Bleachers, science lab equipment, musical accompanists, grants for student publications - whatever the request, The Shark Fund’s goal is to ensure that our students have what they need to get the best education possible.
